Jani

“Jani” is the life story of Jani Papadhimitri, one of the most famous musicians in Albania. He was born and raised at a time when the personal cult of former Albanian dictator, Enver Hoxha, was at its peak.
After scaling the heights of success in a repressive society where individual freedom was denied, he managed to settle in the neighbouring Greece. Having a Greek origin from his father, he thought that he would easily integrate into the Greek society. What happened later would prove him wrong. Like many other immigrant artists, he paid a heavy price.
At an age when most of his peers consider retirement, after having spent 11 years in Athens, Jani Papadhimitri embarked on a new venture: he moved to Toronto. However he survived that ordeal with dignity, creating music that in turn continues to inspire millions of people all over the world.
This is the story of an ever youthful soul.
